When tooth decay occurs, Dr. Santos and Dr. Folck will recommend tooth-colored fillings to strengthen and protect your teeth in the future. Tooth-colored fillings are made of a special blend of composite resin that mimics the appearance of your natural teeth. Once placed, the fillings will effectively repair your tooth’s function, appearance, and beauty. This tooth-colored resin is also used in some cosmetic procedures like bonding because it has many of the same aesthetic properties of your natural smile.

The Tooth-Colored Fillings Process

After we detect a cavity or area of decay, we will schedule your appointment for tooth-colored fillings. This procedure will typically take about an hour’s time. First, we will prepare the affected area by creating abrasion on the enamel to help the composite resin bond to the tooth. Next, we will apply the composite resin, using a special light to harden it into place. Then, we will file your filling down to the correct height, and lastly, we’ll polish it to match the rest of your smile. After the procedure, you may experience some slight soreness, but this can be managed with over-the-counter pain medication.
